What's the Differences Between System Software and Application Software?
We've always been interacting with software on our computers. Every program we activated on our computers helps us with our daily errands. But most of us didn't notice that softwares are divided into 2 types, system software, and application software. So, what are the differences between those two?. We'll take a look at their definitions, characteristics, and some examples of both softwares.
System Software
System softwares are programs that are designed and made to run the hardware and the application software. In other words, system software works as a platform for accessing other softwares. System software consists of 4 parts, the operating system that provides the interface and manages resources, the language translator that converts computer program from one language to another, the device driver that let softwares to access hardware functions, and the utilities that provides additional support programs. Most of the system software runs in the background, so we can't interact with it directly.
Application Software
Application softwares are programs that are designed to help the users to do tasks or commands. Unlike system software, you can interact with application software directly. Application softwares are divided into 2 types, basic application software and specialized application software. Both of this software are useful for any purpose, like productivity and academic use.
Basic Application Software
Basic application software is used to do light basic tasks. Some of the examples are Microsoft Office apps. You can do some tasks with those apps, like making texts with Word, creating data tables with Excel, or preparing presentations with PowerPoint. Because of their light workload, these apps can run on any PC.
Specialized Application Software
Specialized application software is used to do special tasks, like do photo editing with Photoshop, video editing with Premiere Pro, or writing code with Visual Sudio Code. These softwares are used by content creators and developers to create their product. But these softwares will give your PC a heavy workload, so make sure to have a great specification on your PC.
